Bachmann warns of Chinese lasers blinding U.S. satellites

On the radio program of conservative talker Laura Ingraham, Michele Bachmann rattled off a litany of complaints against China, accusing the country of blinding U.S. satellites with lasers, selling weapons to terrorist regimes and engaging in cyber attacks on both U.S. businesses and the military.

“China has widespread intellectual property theft of United States’ intellectual property. Don’t forget that,” Bachmann told Ingraham. “They’ve also been engaged in industrial espionage against the West as well. And they actively have engaged in cyber attacks both on our military and on our commercial companies.”

“And don’t forget I sit on the intelligence committee. This is an open source document. I’m not sharing something I shouldn’t,” she said, “but China has blinded United States satellites with their lasers. They’ve also supplied arms to the Taliban, and they’ve helped North Korea deliver missiles to Iran and Pakistan. And they’ve assisted Iran with their nuclear program.”

“Just keep these things in mind when it comes to China, they are a very bad actor,” she added.

China is suspected in a massive hacking incident uncovered last month.

Chinese-made weapons have also turned up in Afghanistan, but most intelligence experts have noted that they came from nation’s friendly to the U.S. such as Pakistan, or through adversaries such as Iran, not through direct sales from China.

And the United Nations has accused China of allowing North Korea to transport weapons to Iran, though China denies it.

As for the claim that China blinded U.S. satellites with lasers, in 2007, U.S. officials announced that a laser had “illuminated” one of its satellites over China. The satellite was unharmed and in the ensuing months, more satellites were hit.

As the Union of Concerned Scientists outlined in its 2009 report on the incident (PDF), the laser was likely deployed to track the orbit of the satellites, something many nations do, which causes no damage to the satellites’ sensory equipment.

“And don’t forget I sit on the intelligence committee.” Big Hair Bad Makeup Bachmann

Talk about oxymorons… Bachmann on an intelligence committee. Must be for a remedial purpose. She seems to have forgotten where D.C. is located since she doesn’t show up to vote and represent her district.

She is trying so desperately to make herself appear relevant/important. It’s really pretty pathetic to watch, but at the same time oh-so-much fun. (insert Happy Face)

She’s right about China; they have been doing all that stuff. They’re a fledgling world power that has centuries of exploitation by Western powers as a background- of course they’re going to aggressively assert themselves on the world stage. War is far from their interest though.

As to Bachmann- just imagine if she were ugly. Problem solved.

Where does she get this garbage? If this were a real concern, don’t you think OTHER politicians currently serving would have brought it up? She must just make up sh*t whenever she feels pressured, and unfortunately for her, she never ever gets it right. If it wasn’t for the fact that she has delusions of presidential power running through her scant brain matter, it would be funny.

…..slowly but surely the complete extent of her lunacy drips out….If she accepts any more campaign contributions from the poor, old teabaggers, she should be prosecuted for fraud!

Hey Jeff Wilfahrt – “Big Hair Bad Makeup Bachmann” Have you looked in the mirror lately? Butt ugly doesn’t even begin to describe what you see in the mirror every morning. You are just another no-brain Minnesota “progressive” who levels a constant litany of personal attacks against anyone who has a differing opinion than you.

Funny thing is that as the father of an openly gay soldier who was killed in Afganistan, you SCREAM for acceptance and DEMAND everyone agree with and embrace your point of view, but have no tolerance for any other point of view.

Moron.

BTW- how much money are you making off the death of your son?

Wow,
You meet the friendliest people on the news sites.

I find it humorous the percentage of personal attacks on GOP sites is very high compared to more liberal sites.

It is my opinion that Bachman has one of the poorest voting records as a representitive. She is not even remotely capable of being president of this large Country.

@Chris
Let me twist your nipple Chris. Hilary Clinton would be twice the president and woman than Michelle Bachman ever could aspire to be.
