New video of mass arrest at Shepard Road during RNC
Friday, September 19, 2008 at 8:01 am
The Glass Bead Collective released video on Thursday of the mass arrests of protesters, media and bystanders at Shepard Road on day one of the Republican National Convention. A number of those arrested were heading to or from the SEIU Labor Day concert on Harriet Island. (Three members of the Glass Bead Collective were among those arrested in the week before the RNC in St. Paul.)
The Glass Bead Collective said the video came from a cameraman who hid his video before being arrested. From the press release, “Video released today shows the indiscriminate arrest of a crowd of two hundred at the waterfront across from a concert on Harriet Island Regional Park during this month’s Republican National Convention in St. Paul. The video includes multiple angles of the event as well as an interview with the cameraman who buried his footage and was one of almost two hundred people arrested for rioting without probable cause.”

I was there taking pictures. The arrests were indeed indiscriminate. I could see no reason why they rounded them all up. One rumor in the crowd at the time is that they were checking IDs, and of the 50 or so they let go almost all had a Minnesota ID – but I cannot confirm this. However, the roundup of “outsiders” seems consistent with the actions Fletcher’s squads took before the RNC.

I Wonder why as the chief law enforcement officer for Ramsey County, Sheriff Bob Fletcher allowed Blackwater contractors to unlawfully round up people peacefully sitting in a public park, and why St Paul’s Police Chief also allowed it? I also cannot help but wonder why the use of deadly force was authorized as a last resort to protect them from non-violent protestors to ‘protect themselves’ was authorized? I also wonder why nobody has asked the question, “Why were Blackwater Contractors used? And Why was their presence never questioned by the media?”

Maybe nobody asked the question, Anonymous, because it never happened. The better question is why the RNC hired the Ramsey County Sheriff, the St. Paul Police, the Minneapolis Police, the FBI, the Secret Service, BATF, (the CIA?, Defense Inntelligence?) and a number of other Minnnesota and federal law enforcxement agencies to do its dirty work. First, get your facts straight.

The police first announced over a megaphone numerous times (three that I remember)to disperse. The ones who got arrested wanted to be arrested. The rest of us just moved on and dispersed. But of course this edited video doesn’t show that. And of course it’s always law enforcements fault. You people need to get a clue plus understand the facts.

Your city should be ashamed of itself, the RNC is the new NAZI party and your police and city government are the goosstepping gestapo and SS acting as the muscle for new Hitlers supression of dissent. I mourn our freedoms and pray that someday the people will be mad enough to fight back.

To Rick: unless a crime was committed the police have no right to order a crowd to disperes – the right ot public assembly is guaranteed in the constition. So the police, contractors and city government are the criminals herer infringing on the constitional rights of american citizens to peacable gather without repression. Welcome to Amerika

I was there that day also. I have alot of footage of video taken outside of the mass arrest showing how the ring was formed. Also shows the coast guard circling a yacht with little orange inflatable boats with machine guns forward and aft and eventually boarding the yacht. These are on avi video. want to know how to get them onto some kind of place where people can see them on the internet.
