Do not forget Kiffmeyer trying to deny native reservation ids for voting. Kiffy lost in court
but maybe influenced enough to deliver the 1/2 percent beat down to Hatch and kept Pawlenty-o-corruption in office.

We applaud Secretary of State Mark Ritchie for making voting rights on November 4th a priority and taking steps in advance to combat voter disenfranchisement (“Minnesota Secretary of State Mark Ritchie says state law makes it tough on would-be vote cagers,” September 23rd). All Minnesotans, regardless of party affiliation, should feel confident that their ballots will be fairly cast and counted in this historical election.

In order to combat problems at polling places in Minnesota and across the country, Election Protection, the nation's largest nonpartisan voter protection coalition, has launched its 2008 general election hotline, 1-866-OUR-VOTE (1-866-687-8683) and web site, www.866OurVote.org. These resources will help ensure that every eligible citizen is properly registered and that all eligible votes are cast and counted on Election Day. With thousands of legal experts and trained volunteers, Election Protection helps voters register, verifies registration status, identifies the location of a registered voters' polling place or helps secure absentee ballots, and helps ensure that eligible ballots are cast and counted.

Voting is a fundamental right and every eligible American who wishes to vote should be able to do so. Minnesota, with the help of Election Protection, is on track to make sure that happens on November 4th.

Dale, try preaching facts from a LEGIT website. That joke of a website you reference was put together by nothing but party hacks. And you fall for their tripe. You must be part of the "I read about it on the internet, it must be true" group of losers. Ever hear of cigarettes for votes? Booze for votes. How about the farce hanging chads. How about the denial of absentee ballots from our servicemen? You are nothing nut a fraud beleiving in non-sensical garbage. All most people (yes you libs too at least the honest ones) want is fairness at the polls. My definition of fair is a picture ID with your current address on it and a current voter registration card. What's the matter with that? And please don't cry the "homeless can't vote" crap either. Name me one homeless person who does vote? Unless of course they get cigs and booze. It's the libs who continually try to rip off elections. Open your eyes dude.

Thank God Minnesota has these great laws to prevent abuse of the voting system. The republicans are doing anything they can around the country to steal this election. See www.republicantricks.com for a listing of these tricks from this campaign.

John K,

Foreclosure has nothing to do with voting eligibility. People usually live in their houses while foreclosure is in process. Also, in Michigan, people who move within their precinct can re-register at the polls from their new address. It's a limited form of election day registration we have in Minnesota. People who have moved from their foreclosed houses can still vote from their new address, provided they re-register. They're no different from anyone else who moved after the pre-registration deadline.

Speaking English isn't a requirement for voting. There are some native-born Americans for whom English is a second language if they speak it at all, like people born in Puerto Rico.

What is improper about preventing people from voting when their homes have been foreclosed? Obviously, they are no longer living there. Their names and addresses should be purged from the rolls.

By the way, I find your picture rather amusing. It shows Vote Here in four languages. You have to be a US citizen to vote. You have to know English to become a US citizen. Why is the sign and the ballots printed in anything other than English?
