Opposed by environmentalists and American Indian groups, a Rio Tinto subsidiary is seeking the land swap in order to better access what it claims may be the largest copper ore body in the world.

Reps. Chip Cravaack, Michele Bachmann and John Kline lent their names to a brief filed with the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday arguing that the Supreme Court should rule the Affordable Care Act (ACA) unconstitutional.

Under current FEC rules, a traditional PAC is allowed to have a separate segregated account for unlimited contributions if the funds are spent on independent expenditures — making it a so-called hybrid committee.

The attempt to head off deeper cuts is drawing concern from farm bill critics, who say the process could benefit from more voices.
Boisclair is also running Randall Terry’s campaign for president in 2012, who announced earlier this year that he would challenge Pres. Barack Obama in the Democratic primaries in order to exploit the federal elections law that says media outlets cannot refuse to run a candidate’s advertising.

Franken’s amendment, one of a handful passed so far by the HELP committee as it undergoes a markup of the sweeping K-12 education bill, would lift the restrictions that bar states from testing students based on their skill level.

Although details of the plan aren’t yet clear, the voluntary reductions are an effort to stave off deeper cuts proposed by some Republicans.
