And on the ninth day … Bachmann was on TV again
Meteorologists may have failed to forecast yesterday’s freak tornado, but political scientists are now able to predict when U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann will next appear on a national cable news show: Aug. 27.
Bachmann earns fifth spot on British “shame” list
Madoff, Palin, Bush, Blagojevich… Bachmann? The Guardian’s Michael Tomasky ranks Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District Rep. Michele Bachmann fifth in “America’s hall of shame.” Her suggestion that journalists should investigate whether Barack Obama and other members of Congress have “anti-American views” — which Tomasky calls “the single most appalling political statement of the year” — merited [...]
Bachmann’s dime-turn on Obama wasn’t evident on Election Night
U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann’s 180-degree turn on Barack Obama has made her a New York Times cover girl today, the lead example in a front-page story on Republicans whose opinions of Obama have undergone drastic makeovers in the five days since his landslide victory in the presidential election. But hers wasn’t an immediate conversion, or even overnight as the Times has it. The political calculation required to move from worries about Obama’s “anti-American views” to his gladness over his African-American background took a little more time, even for a woman who also promised him a kiss.
MnIndy video: Bachmann claims victory over Tinklenberg
U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann avoided remarks about anti-Americanism in Congress as she claimed victory in a speech to supporters at the Minnesota Republican Party’s election night gathering. Her re-election came in spite of the nationwide furor over controversial statements she made on MSNBC’s “Hardball.” Noting that her Democratic challenger Elwyn Tinklenberg had called her to [...]
‘Nonsense’: New anti-Bachmann mailers quote Colin Powell
A new mailer sent out by the Alliance for a Better Minnesota accuses Republicans Michele Bachmann and Norm Coleman of being distracted from the work of “finding solutions to the most difficult economic crisis facing America since the Great Depression.” But Bachmann gets the sharpest jab: Instead of dealing with the financial meltdown she’s “questioning people’s patriotism.” The flyer prominently features a quote and image of Gen. Colin Powell who, referring to Bachmann’s infamous comments on “Hardball,” said, “We have got to stop this kind of nonsense and remember that our great strength is in our unity and our diversity.”
Bachmann releases two new ads
Rep. Michele Bachmann is out with two new ads this week. Rumors that she might apologize for remarks she made on MSNBC’s Hardball insinuating that Sen. Barack Obama and certain members of Congress may have anti-American views were quelled when the first ad was released Friday.
In the ad, Bachmann says “I may not always get my words right, but I know that my heart is right. Because my heart is for you, for your children and for the blessings of liberty to remain for our great country.”
Survey USA poll: Tinklenberg leads Bachmann by 3 points in 6th CD
Democrat Elwyn Tinklenberg leads U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R.-Minn.) 47 percent to 44 percent in a new poll of 621 likely voters in Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District that Survey USA conducted Oct. 21–22 for KSTP-TV. The poll shows that 6 percent of respondents favored Independence Party candidate Bob Anderson and 2 percent were undecided. The poll has margin of [...]
MnIndy video: What do Bachmann’s constituents think about the ‘anti-American’ controversy?
Rep. Michele Bachmann’s recent Hardball blow-up has undoubtedly endangered her re-election prospects. But what do constituents in the 6th Congressional District think of Bachmann’s latest episode of foot-in-mouth disease? On Tuesday afternoon Chris Steller and I ventured into the northern suburbs to speak with voters about the controversy and their feelings regarding Bachmann. The responses were diverse, from a man who calls Bachmann a “nutcase” to a woman who shares Bachmann’s concerns about Barack Obama to a man who no longer votes because he feels all politicians are crooks.
Oops, she did it again: Bachmann says ‘Barack Obama’s views are against America’
On the Hugh Hewitt radio program Wednesday morning, Rep. Michele Bachmann explained that her statements were misconstrued when she accused Barack Obama and members of Congress of possibly having anti-American views.
She told Hewitt that what she really meant to say was that “Barack Obama’s views are against America.” Previously, she said “Obama may hold anti-American [...]
Video: Tinklenberg’s new commercial avoids Bachmann controversy
While DailyKos cut an alternate TV spot for Michele Bachmann’s Democratic challenger, El Tinklenberg’s campaign came up with its own. Bright and positive, it’s a classic introductory commercial, touting his successes as Blaine mayor and transportation commissioner. He references Bachmann directly only once: The commercial begins with an image of Bachmann in front of a dire economic trend chart as the narrator states, “Voters have a choice: Michele Bachmann or El Tinklenberg.” Its conclusion seems to be a hint at Bachmann’s divisive comments on MSNBC on Friday: “I approve this message because it’s time to start working together again.” Tinklenberg purchased $188,000 in ad time for the spot.
