By Paul Schmelzer | 10.21.08 | 11:02 am

While DailyKos cut an alternate TV spot for Michele Bachmann’s Democratic challenger, El Tinklenberg’s campaign came up with its own. Bright and positive, it’s a classic introductory commercial, touting his successes as Blaine mayor and transportation commissioner. He references Bachmann directly only once: The commercial begins with an image of Bachmann in front of a dire economic trend chart as the narrator states, “Voters have a choice: Michele Bachmann or El Tinklenberg.” Its conclusion seems to be a hint at Bachmann’s divisive comments on MSNBC on Friday: “I approve this message because it’s time to start working together again.” Tinklenberg purchased $188,000 in ad time for the spot.

Tinklenberg goes shopping for TV ad time with anti-Bachmann windfall

By Chris Steller | 10.20.08 | 12:14 pm

We wondered: After Michele Bachmann’s MSNBC meltdown the other day, would Elwyn Tinklenberg have trouble finding local TV ad time available for purchase this late in the game? The DFLer is suddenly flush with contributions in his 6th Congressional District campaign after Bachmann’s “anti-American” gaffe.

But three other more costly contests — for U.S. president, senate and house (3rd District) — are already consuming $29.7 million of Twin Cities TV. What’s left for El?

Bachmann backpedals: I was ‘misread’!

By Paul Schmelzer | 10.20.08 | 9:28 am

Rep. Michele Bachmann now says her words were “misconstrued” when she said she wondered if Barack Obama has “anti-American views,” and she says MSNBC’s Chris Matthews used the A-word first. A look at the transcript shows she’s correct — but that just before Matthews did, she described Obama and other Democrats by using a Russian word that had its heyday in Stalin’s time.
