Before a crowd holding signs that read “Damn this federal government to hell” and “The citizens must declare war on their immoral, corrupt, Marxist government,” Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann addressed around 1,000 people Saturday at a “Kill the Bill” rally against Democrats’ health care reform measures at the State Capitol.

State Sen. Mee Moua said some who testified at a Mar. 2 hearing on gay marriage were so “fixated on the sex-making aspects” that they missed the spirit of the bill. But here’s another aspect of recent hearings on the topic that hasn’t been examined: Tuesday’s statement by Janet Boynes was nearly identical to one by Barb Davis White. One difference: Boynes didn’t repeat White’s claim that “Rosa Parks didn’t move to the front of the bus to support sodomy.”

Joel Demos is seeking the Republican endorsement to take on Rep. Keith Ellison. An assistant pastor at Christian Life Center, an apostolic church in Golden Valley, Demos earned a degree in Theology at Christian Life College in 2001.

With the national economy in the tank and a seemingly never-ending war in Iraq, Republicans are looking to change the subject. But is abortion a winning issue in 2008? Some Minnesota Republicans seem to think so. The state Republican party, as well as two congressional candidates are using the abortion issue in campaigns.

Barb Davis White is running an underdog campaign to unseat Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison on a platform of opposing same-sex marriage, abortion and immigration reform in a district with large numbers of LGBT residents, pro-choice voters and immigrants. As if those hurdles weren’t enough, the money just isn’t coming in for the Republican candidate.

The campaign of Barb Davis White went after the Republican National Committee and the Republican Party of Minnesota on Tuesday because the RNC has failed to invite any African-American congressional candidates to speak at the Republican National Convention and because the Minnesota GOP has been lax in supporting Davis White’s campaign. Davis White is the Republican Party’s endorsed candidate for the 5th Congressional District encompassing Minneapolis and several inner-ring suburbs.
