St. Paul gets more cops and more taxes

The City of Saint Paul will be raising taxes and bringing in new police officers while keeping the libraries open. The St. Paul City Council unanimously passed the 2007 budget at their meeting on Wednesday.

$1.038B Surplus Reported by Department of Finance

The state of Minnesota will finish the 2006-2007 biennium with a surplus of over $1 billion, according to a report by the Minnesota Department of Finance.  Additionally, the 2008-2009 biennium’s projected surplus has also been revised upward by $394 million, bringing the projected balance going into the next biennium to $2.17 billion.


$1B Surplus in State Budget Predicted – Updated

Minnesota’s budget surplus is expected to rise to approximately $1 billion for the next fiscal year, according to a prediction by Gov. Tim Pawlenty.

The state’s economic report, which covers the relative health of the economy as well as the budget outlook, is due out today.
