Campaign ads

Late last week the McCain campaign released its first television ad for the general election. Long on pomp, it includes footage of McCain as a POW and concludes with this tag: “The American President Americans have been waiting for.” The second, web-only spot is biographical.

This week Hillary Clinton hit the Pennsylvania airwaves with a TV spot called “Level” that had run previously in Ohio. Prior to that, Barack Obama’s campaign had put three ads into rotation in the state. The first two Obama commercials are new; the third first ran in Iowa last summer.

The Obama campaign, which is now reportedly spending a staggering $1.5 million every day, has added three TV spots in Pennsylvania. The first two are new; the third first ran in Iowa last summer.

It’s the new Norm, the consensus-building Norm, the I never had sex with that president, Mr. Bush Norm. It’s the work of one “American Future Fund,” an Iowa-based nonprofit of very recent vintage.
