Religious Right Watch: The ‘War on Christmas’
What is the reason for the season? For some it’s to squabble over when and where people celebrate the birth of the Christian messiah Jesus Christ, and it’s part of the holiday tradition known as the “War on Christmas.” This year the war features a child-molesting Santa Claus, Nazis, gay marriage, Frank Costanza’s Festivus pole and a look back at the most anti-Christian Christmas-bashers in American history: the Puritans.
Fox News on Car-ballot-gate: Old fictions die hard
As David Brauer and Emily Kaiser both point out, Michele Bachmann’s Tuesday appearance on Hannity & Colmes also included another “retread”: the now-disproven story about 32 ballots being left in Minneapolis election director Cindy Reichert’s car. Reichert says it never happened, Secretary of State Mark Ritchie swears the same, and even Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty [...]
Fox anticipated Bachmann plea for media witch hunt with Glenn Beck hire
What would it look like if the media took up U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann’s call to hunt down anti-American members of Congress? Look no farther than this headline from Friday, the day Bachmann made her plea to the press for a Capitol Hill witch hunt: “CNN’s Beck Decamps for Fox News.”
Right-wing host Glenn Beck, who will command a [...]
When McCain is done with Ayers, will he take the Rashid Khalidi bait?
He’s no Jeremiah Wright or Bill Ayers, but Palestinian academic and Columbia University professor Rashid Khalidi (pictured) may be next in the parade of radical ghosts from Obama’s past.
T-Paw praises Palin to the skies on UK’s Sky News
Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty heaped praise on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in an interview on Sky News — the British answer to another Rupert Murdoch TV holding, Fox News — that was conducted shortly before Thursday’s vice presidential debate. ”I’m impressed with the pick,” Pawlenty says in the video, calling Palin “a good selection,” “a fresh face,” “a reformer,” and “a maverick” [...]
RNC Day Two Diary (part I): Huck and me; on the convention floor
Tuesday’s adventures began with my shoulder and Mike Huckabee’s shoulder touching–though he didn’t seem to notice. It ended in front of Babani’s Kurdish Restaurant with a column of riot police who, after firing multiple exploding tear gas canisters a half hour earlier, said “thank you” and “we really appreciate it” in their final effort to disperse the remnants of a particularly dynamic march.
Odds and ends from Ron Paul’s Rally for the Republic
Some random observations from this afternoon at the Ron Paul counter-convention:
The Target Center is between a third and a half full. One of the volunteers asked another if any more tickets were needed because she still had 15 left. The guy with her smirked and slowly shook his head no.
Grover Norquist (pictured) gave a speech [...]
Media Monitor: A GOP welcome, a Fox hit job, an AP farewell
A new ad campaign urges Twin Citizens to “make an effort” to be nice to visiting Republicans. The Strib is reportedly cutting ties with the Associated Press. And Fox News, again, shows its news mettle. All in this edition of Media Monitor.
Video: Fox reporter instigates crowd, earns rebuke
As our sister site the Colorado Independent first reported, Fox News reporter Griff Jenkins — specifically sent to “cause trouble” — was confronted by protesters chanting “Spread the lies” and “Fuck corporate media” just as the DNC was starting in Denver. Fox’s coverage of the tussle gives credence to demonstrators’ concerns about the rightwing network [...]
Fox News: Don’t know much about history
The following graphic appeared a few days ago on Fox in conjunction with Hillary Clinton’s proposal that she and Barack Obama engage in an unmoderated debate like the 1858 US Senate debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas:
Minnesota Monitor has obtained the following Fox News photo of the fathers of modern communism from a [...]
