With only a few weeks to go before several 2012 candidates face off in the Ames Straw Poll, the world is about to see who has best balanced the game of Iowa momentum and expectations.
In “Courage,” Rep. Michele Bachmann vows to “not vote to increase the debt ceiling. It goes completely contrary to commonsense and how I grew up in Iowa.” Failure to raise the debt limit, the Iowa Democratic Party stated in response to the TV ad, “would be catastrophic for our economy and would likely send us into a tailspin worse than the last.”
As Republican presidential hopeful and former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty starts his swing through Iowa, the state’s Democratic Party is taking aim at his no-taxes pledge.
“Tomorrow I’m going to speak to the nation,” Rep. Michele Bachmann said Sunday night in her birth town of Waterloo, Iowa, referencing her plans to formally launch her campaign for president Monday, also in that town. “But tonight I want to speak to all of you.”

Following a press conference at the office, where the Republican intends to announce his Iowa field team, Paul will caucus with Senate and House Republicans at the Iowa Capitol, Ivers said.
Last weekend’s Tax Day Tea Party rallies in Iowa and South Carolina featured Tim Pawlenty and Michele Bachmann, respectively, and by all accounts, attendance at the events was off. Bachmann carries the tea party mantle, although some activists resent her de facto leadership title, while Pawlenty is having trouble garnering the support of tea partiers even at his own events.
