Lieberman doesn’t know what a PDF is?

As a presidential candidate, Republican John McCain apparently saw former Democrat Joe Lieberman as a strong pick for running mate. Given McCain’s admission that he’s a computer “illiterate” and Lieberman’s cluelessness about technology — revealed at today’s confirmation hearing for Peter Orszag as Barack Obama’s head of the Office of Management and Budget — they might’ve [...]

Jaws (not calls) drop as Credo Mobile uses Lieberman’s mug in ad

U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman was in the news last week for applying thumb to nose at former Democratic colleagues who couldn’t quite put their fingers on their backbones to deny him a committee chairmanship. So his appearance over the weekend in a Web ad for Credo Mobile, the politically progressive communications company formerly known as Working [...]

Comedians show more spine than Dems on Lieberman

The Democrats’ response to Sen. Joe Lieberman’s vigorous campaigning for John McCain, which included the former Democrat taking to CNN to endorse the GOP’s talking point that “Hamas endorsed Obama”: He got to keep his chairmanship and was allowed to remain part of the Democratic Senatorial Caucus. Since his party won’t deal with Leiberman harshly, [...]

Why is a plane pulling a ‘Ron Paul Revolution’ banner over Minneapolis?

In the last couple weeks, I’ve tried to extract extra political meaning out of all sorts of stuff — Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s growing back his mullet (for a presidential run in 2012?), Al Franken’s traveling to D.C. (to cast a provisional ballot against U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman’s committee chairmanship?), and Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak’s playing with [...]

Mere speculation: Did Franken go to D.C. to vote on Lieberman?

Al Franken is in Washington, D.C., today. Why? To meet with Democratic Party leaders, goes the official explanation. But why now, just as the U.S. Senate recount on which his political fate rests is getting under way?
Granted, Franken’s presence now in Minnesota might not be necessary or even helpful. But his absence uncomfortably recalls Al [...]

Sen. Lautenberg: Coleman refused to investigate Iraq fraud

Yesterday Norm Coleman’s campaign trotted out Sen. Joe Lieberman to defend his record as chairman of the Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, which has been repeatedly criticized by challenger Al Franken. Today the Franken camp released a statement from Sen. Frank Lautenberg (pictured) supporting the Democrat’s assertion that Coleman failed to provide any oversight of fraud and waste stemming from the reconstruction of Iraq.

What we mean when we say ‘country first’

The ideals of “country first,” and “service” won lavish praise at the Republican National Convention last night. The realities of the Republican party and President George W. Bush got rather less respect.
A parade of speakers in St. Paul, including Minnesota congresswoman Michele Bachmann, a Hispanic businessman, an Arizona educator, and President Bush (speaking from the [...]

Lieberman is in Dayton, says NBC; Romney, like Pawlenty, is not

TalkLeft is reporting that NBC says Joe Lieberman is in Dayton, Ohio, where John McCain is expected to introduce his running mate later this morning.
Politico’s Jonathan Martin says that Mitt Romney, like Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, will not be in Dayton today.
There’s heavy speculation this morning about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (check this piece by [...]

Pawlenty: I’ll be at the fair today

When my old AM clock radio alarm went off half an hour ago, I awoke to the sound of Tim Pawlenty telling Eric Eskola that he would be at the state fair for his radio show this morning. So unless John McCain is planning to parachute into the WCCO booth for a surprise announcement, it [...]

McCain veepstakes: Secret Service sweeps a Romney relative’s house (oh my!); Pawlenty depressed today? (updated)

Updated 6:15 pm: see below.
More from the political wire about John McCain’s impending VP pick:
David Drucker, Roll Call: “If security sweeps are the giveaway, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney may be on the brink of being selected as Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) vice presidential running mate. According to sources with strong Michigan ties, the Secret [...]
