Roll Call reports that, on this day when Norm Coleman is expected to hear from the state Supreme Court about his prospects of returning to the U.S. Senate, another Minnesota Coleman has secured a new gig in Washington. After serving as the former Minnesota senator’s communications director, LeRoy Coleman has been named director of media affairs for the Republican National Committee. LeRoy and Norm aren’t related, but they do share a last name and an RNC connection: Former Sen. Coleman was once considered as a candidate for chair of the RNC.

He’ll be in good company. Another former Colemanite heading to the RNC: Coleman’s former campaign manager, Cullen Sheehan, was recently named regional director for the group.

The Senate voted unanimously yesterday to provide Coleman’s staff with additional time to tie up loose ends and transfer constituent cases to other legislators. Coleman had sought a 60-day reprieve.

“The passage of the resolution will allow staff to work closely with members of the Minnesota congressional delegation to ensure constituents’ urgent matters are addressed,” Coleman spokesman LeRoy Coleman told the Star Tribune. The Republican’s Washington and Minnesota offices were initially ordered closed on Jan. 5 after the state Canvassing Board certified Al Franken as the winner of the U.S. Senate contest.
