A month after his aide said he’d seek “necessary approvals at the proper time,” former U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman apparently has not asked the Federal Election Commission for an advisory opinion about whether he can spend campaign cash…

Texas lawsuit naming Coleman should proceed quickly, lawyer says

By Paul Demko | 01.14.09 | 6:00 am

Minnesota’s U.S. Senate contest is not likely to be settled any time soon. Norm Coleman’s decision to contest the election in court means that a three-judge panel will likely spend weeks scrutinizing the details of the election and ensuing statewide recount that determined Al Franken won by 225 votes. While the extended time-frame is relatively good news for Coleman — in that it means his electoral prospects remain alive — it could also allow time for more details to emerge in a pair of lawsuits that surfaced late in the campaign.

Former agent Coleen Rowley seeking FBI data on RNC policing

By Chris Steller | 12.20.08 | 11:00 am

Could it be Coleen Rowley, famed FBI whistleblower, TIME magazine 2002 person of the year and the DFL Party’s 2006 candidate in Minnesota’s Second Congressional District? Indeed it was.

By Chris Steller | 12.12.08 | 3:15 pm

Fox 9′s Tom Lyden’s reports that U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman and his wife Laurie were in the midst of a major home remodeling project in the spring of 2007, at the same time that a Texas firm controlled by Coleman benefactor Nasser Kazeminy was making payments to the insurance firm where Laurie Coleman works. So there is a circumstantial link between the payments and the house costs — and a potential motive for Kazeminy to steer a sum like that to the Colemans, as two lawsuits allege and the FBI is now looking into.

By Chris Steller | 12.11.08 | 8:22 am

If anyone took it seriously when an unnamed U.S. senator floated the name of his senate colleague Norm Coleman as a prospective chair of the Republican National Committee in The Washington Times three weeks ago, they likely aren’t anymore. And…
