Pawlenty praises court decision ruling health care reform unconstitutional

A Florida judge ruled the entire Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act unconstitutional on Monday in a case filed by 26 states, almost all of which have Republican governors. U.S. District Judge Roger Vinson, a Reagan appointee expected to rule against health care reform, said the individual health insurance mandate which goes into effect in 2014 is unconstitutional, and because it’s integral to the entire statute the whole thing should be thrown out. Pawlenty said he was proud to be a part of the lawsuit.

North Dakota abortion ban could have national implications

North Dakota legislators are proposing a law that could have national implications. Dubbed the Personhood bill, SF 1572 would grant every fertilized egg in the state full rights, and any intentional death of that fertilized egg would constitute murder. Bill supporters say they hope it will challenge Roe v. Wade and overturn the right to choose for women across the nation.

North Dakota bill would add sexual orientation to human rights laws

A new bill in the North Dakota Legislature could have that state joining thirteen others in outlawing discrimination in employment based on sexual orientation or gender identity. Minnesota was the first state in the nation to do so in 1993, and the North Dakota bill follows that lead.

On Wednesday, the bill passed the North Dakota Senate, which is made up of 21 Democrats and 26 Republicans, by a wide margin with a vote of 27-19.
