Bachmann will ‘look to the Lord’ in deciding 2012 presidential bid

Rep. Michele Bachmann told Pat Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network Friday that she will “look to the Lord” for guidance on whether she’ll run for the Republican nomination for president in 2012. Bachmann, whose activism in the tea party movement and among conservative evangelical Christians has her visiting most parts of the country, has repeatedly said that her faith would guide her decision to seek higher office.

Dean at Bachmann’s alma mater questions her qualifications for president

Rep. Michele Bachmann earned her law degree from televangelist Pat Robertson’s Regent University, but that doesn’t necessarily mean her alma mater backs her possible presidential bid. The dean of the university’s Pat Robertson School of Government thinks her response to President Obama’s State of the Union address was unwise and stated that she’s too inexperienced to make it to the Oval Office just yet.

Bachmann adds Sekulow to list of constitution class teachers

Rep. Michele Bachmann has added religious right attorney Jay Sekulow to her list of instructors at her Tea Party Caucus constitutional classes. Sekulow is the head of the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), a conservative religious law group televangelist Pat Robertson founded because he thought the American Civil Liberties Union was “hostile to traditional American values.” Sekulow joins Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and controversial history revisionist David Barton as an invitee of Bachmann to teach the courses.

As part of it’s “Elephant in the Room” series, Pat Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network did a half-hour long segment on Gov. Tim Pawlenty and his presidential aspirations. CBN’s David Brody sat down with Pawlenty and wife Mary as well the Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza and Politico’s Jonathan Martin. Among the topics were Pawlenty’s connection to the evangelical community and his lack of name recognition.

The American Center for Law and Justice, an evangelical Christian legal group founded by televangelist Pat Robertson, has filed an Amicus brief on behalf of 63 members of Congress — including Minnesota Reps. Michele Bachmann and John Kline — challenging the constitutionality of a provision health care reform legislation that will require all Americans to have health insurance by 2014.

Pat Robertson generated outrage last week when he said he believes Haiti’s problems stem from a pact the nation made with the devil in 1804, but his remarks aren’t unique among evangelical Christians, even in Minnesota. While not all subscribe to the view that Satan is to blame for last week’s devastating earthquake, some say Haiti’s salvation will only come about if its inhabitants abandon their Vodou religious practices and turn to Jesus Christ.
