According to ABC News, Rep. Michele Bachmann is mulling a run for president in 2012 and will start meeting with Iowa power brokers to determine the efficacy of such a move this month. Her aides would neither confirm nor deny that she had plans on the high office, and her spokesman did not rule out a Bachmann bid for president.

In two separate statements this weekend, Rep. Michele Bachmann left the door open on whether she would seek higher office in 2012. The Hill reported Sunday that Bachmann hasn’t said for certain whether she wants to challenge Sen. Amy Klobuchar, but has the resources and party backing to make the challenge. Republican blogger Ryan Lyk, noting Bachmann’s large amount of spending in Iowa, spoke with Bachmann’s chief of staff, who said she “hasn’t ruled anything out” anything — including a run for president.

The poll’s authors said that Pawlenty’s lackluster showing in his home state might be behind Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer’s underperformance during a GOP wave.
