What isn’t Bachmann telling us about Obama’s birth certificate?
Why won’t Michele Bachmann come clean about her views on President Obama’s birth certificate? For a congresswoman who flaunts suspicions about the U.S. Census, foreign currencies, the Federal Reserve and Obama’s allegedly “anti-American views,” she’s been strangely silent on the rampant (and roundly disproven) rumor spread by so-called “birthers” that Obama was born outside the [...]
In his own words: Pawlenty on signing a certificate after the Coleman-Franken ruling
Gov. Tim Pawlenty has been all over the map about his readiness to issue an election certificate after a ruling by the Minnesota Supreme Court in the Norm Coleman-Al Franken election contest — He will, he might, he might wait, and so on. Here are nine quotes from Pawlenty dating from January to June.
Coleman: ‘We will never know who won’
“We will never know who won,” Norm Coleman said Wednesday. That’s after seven Minnesota judges — three on Monday and four in January — concluded that Al Franken won Minnesota’s 2008 election for U.S. Senate. His was a “close victory,” the Democrat conceded on Monday. But Coleman — now down by 312 votes — isn’t buying it. “Our system isn’t geared for this kind of closeness.” Still, some precision is possible in politics, as Gawker.com suggested Wednesday with its two-word description of Gov. Tim Pawlenty.
Klobuchar was off by 42 minutes in forecasting a new Senator
We knew she was killing, as in funny. Now it turns out Sen. Amy Klobuchar is also knowing, as in clairvoyant. Her prediction two months ago about when she’d gain a home-state companion in the U.S. Senate was within 42 minutes of a court ruling that Franken won. UPDATED with new video clip from Rachel Maddow’s show. UPDATED again with video of Klobuchar on CNN.
Pawlenty hems, haws on if he’ll OK new senator after state high court rules
Gov. Tim Pawlenty says he might not sign an election certificate to seat Democrat Al Franken or Republican Norm Coleman in the U.S. Senate, even after the Minnesota Supreme Court is done with the disputed election.
“I also would want to look at what the courts did with the case in terms of leaving issues for [...]
Pawlenty bows to tea-baggers in GOP weekly address
In the Republican response to President Obama’s weekly address today, Gov. Tim Pawlenty regurgitates the right-wing Tax Foundation’s discredited “Tax Freedom Day” calculation to claim that ”the average American has to work from January 1st until this Monday, April 13th, just to earn enough money to pay all their taxes for the year.” It’s as deep a nod [...]
Pawlenty saving himself for right time to say whether he’ll sign Senate certificate
For Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s fourth appearance on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” Wednesday night to discuss the Norm Coleman-Al Franken election-contest lawsuit, Maddow popped the question: “If Mr. Coleman appeals to the state Supreme Court, and then the state Supreme Court rules that one of these two men have won the election, you will sign an election certificate [...]
Rachel Maddow calls out Bachmann error in Strib op-ed
As we reported yesterday, Rep. Michele Bachmann has been saying that Barack Obama’s cap-and-trade plan for global warming will cost households $3,100 each year in energy costs. Only trouble is, the author of the MIT study she’s citing said last month she’s flat wrong. Now MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow is calling out the Minnesota Republican for [...]
On MSNBC, T-Paw won’t rush in where others fear to tread: critiquing Limbaugh
Gov. Tim Pawlenty moved from one media platform to the next yesterday, topping off three hours as guest host on a local Christian talk radio station with six minutes on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show.” Pawlenty stepped gingerly around Rush Limbaugh’s “I hope Obama fails” comments and seemed confident that his own comments to Maddow [...]
In Air America radio interview, Franken sees himself in Senate seat soon
Al Franken returns this weekend to Air America, the politically progressive national network on which he hosted a radio program before launching his campaign for U.S. Senate, in an interview with Air America president Mark Green on the show “7 Days in America.” It won’t air locally however. It airs Sunday at 6 p.m., and he’ll also [...]
