Ron Paul would veto spending for Planned Parenthood, ‘family planning schemes’

By Sofia Resnick | 06.23.11 | 2:53 pm

GOP presidential contender Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) has taken a further step proving his anti-abortion-rights commitment since signing the Susan B. Anthony List’s “2012 Pro-Life Presidential Leadership Pledge,” a pledge also signed by Minnesota’s Michele Bachmann and Tim Pawlenty. In his budget document, Paul says he’d “veto any spending bill that contains funding for Planned Parenthood, facilities that perform abortion and all government family planning schemes.”

Michele Bachmann and Tim Pawlenty have signed on to the Susan B. Anthony List’s 2012 Pro-life Presidential Leadership Pledge. The presidential candidates have pledged to roll back abortion rights in four key areas, and the duo join three other presidential contenders: Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul and Rick Santorum. Bachmann went after fellow presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Sunday for not signing the pledge and not committing to “ending the practice of abortion.”

House Republicans passed a bill on Thursday that calls for a budget bill containing $61 billion in cuts to become law if the Senate does not pass a spending plan by Wednesday. Bachmann, along with all but 15 Republicans, voted for the bill that would “deem” the budget bill into law, also known as a “self-executing rule.” One year ago, Bachmann called a similar bill “violence to the Constitution” and suggested impeachment if Democrats “deemed and passed” health care reform into law.

Pawlenty scores third in New Hampshire WMUR 2012 poll

By Andy Birkey | 02.15.11 | 9:34 am

While he’s still at single digits among Republicans in New Hampshire, former Gov. Tim Pawlenty scored third place in the WMUR Granite State Poll, which was released on Thursday. Pawlenty polled ahead of Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul, and tied Mike Huckabee at 7 percent. The strong showing by Pawlenty could be an indication of Palin’s sinking support following her “blood libel” remarks in January.

Pawlenty claims 2nd in Hotline’s 2012 ‘presidential power rankings’

By Patrick Caldwell | 11.09.10 | 5:34 pm

The list ranks Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty as the second leading contender, far above his placement in most early 2012 opinion polls. Hotline cites his “executive experience and conservative credentials,” as reasons to believe Pawlenty is the real deal, but wonders if the stereotype of Minnesota nice might be true in this case, harming his ability to appear aggressive enough to run an effective presidential primary campaign.

By Jon Collins | 08.09.10 | 1:05 pm

It seems Jesse Ventura’s new conspiracy TV show might be buying him some credibility with the schizophrenic Ron Paul crowd. In an online poll at RonPaul.com asking who should serve as Paul’s 2012 running mate,…

Ron Paul wins presidential straw poll at conservative convention

By David Weigel | 02.22.10 | 10:50 am

Rep. Ron Paul’s surprise win in the presidential straw poll at the Conservative Political Action Conference is being dismissed by some party insiders as the result of eager young Paul fans casting their votes. But Paul’s win — topping the likes of Mitt Romney and Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who placed fourth — reveals plenty about the state of conservatism today.
