The Tea Party and religious right movements will collide — or coalesce — when the Worldview Weekend rally comes to Rochester April 9. Worldview Weekend founder Brannon Howse (pictured) will present his brand of evangelical Christianity, sprinkled with conspiracy theories about liberals and President Obama.

Worldview Weekend has close ties to the Minnesota Family Council, which often encourages its members to attend and contributes to the Worldview Weekend website. Likewise, the event’s presenters are closely affiliated with some Republican legislators: David Wheaton, a Christian radio host and Worldview Weekend presenter, for example, has hosted Reps. Michele Bachmann and Erik Paulsen.

Howse offers potential Worldview Weekend attendees a sampling of his preaching. In one video clip, he shares his thoughts about “why Obama is destroying our economy.” Howse believes that “homosexual” economists are behind a philosophy aimed at throwing the nation into economic chaos.

“I predict the Obama Administration will not only give illegal aliens high paying jobs through this federal infrastructure program, but also citizenship. With citizenship comes the right to vote and thereby securing election after election for the Cultural Marxists… The more I read, hear, and research, the more I am willing to believe this financial crisis, that was birthed in the Clinton Administration, was possibly orchestrated in order to destroy the middle class and implement radical, extreme socialism… The goals of Cultural Marxism are primarily the destruction of Christianity and the creation of chaos. The ultimate goal is to move from Cultural Marxism to traditional Marxism and that is what is happening to America today.”

True to Tea Party independence, Howse said last September, “I was one of the first conservative talk show hosts to refer to George W. Bush as a socialist and a globalist. Both parties are destroying our country.”

Workshops scheduled for the Rochester conference include “How This Happened to America, Where We Are Going and The Biblical Response”; “The Radicals and Their Worldviews Ruling America From the Grave and How Every Teen and Adult Must Respond To Be Protected”; and “What The Bible Has to Say About The Coming One-World Religion, One-World Economy and Global Governance.”

Materials will be distributed that purport “The War on Christianity through Radical Environmentalism, Population Control, Global Governance, and Socialism: Americans are watching the destruction of free-market capitalism under our most socialistic, left-wing administration ever.”

And attendees will be introduced to Howse’s radio program with topics that often invoke Hitler and Obama including this one from last year:

“House and Senate Pass Service Bill Very Similar to Hitler’s Youth?” Is this the private, well-funded, civilian military Obama promised during the campaign? Brannon Howse reveals the largely unknown story of how the Obama’s are taking national their radical, socialist, and anti-Christian worldview training that was birthed through their organization “Public Allies”. The training will include “social justice” training which is code word for Communism, socialism and Marxism.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty unveiled his new Twitter home page only yesterday. Then why does the color scheme suggest it was designed for a Soviet socialist in the 1920s? (After the jump is Aleksandr Rodchenko‘s cover for the 1927 book, “Materialization of the Fantastic” — not a bad campaign slogan for Pawlenty ’12 actually.)

Pawlenty’s debut on the social-media platform of the moment and an announcement of a retooling for Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s campaign Web site had political wags a-twitter about what he’s running for — a third term as governor in 2010, the Republican nomination for president in 2012, or both.

Despite the striking, Soviet look of Pawlenty’s red-black Twitter page, his message window initially had a legibility problem due to a lack of clash: white type on a white background.

Another interesting aspect of the governor’s Twitter page: He labels himself “TPAW” for what seems like the first time in public. But he forsakes what could have been a brilliant Twitter handle (“@tpaw”) for the more proletarian “@pawlenty.”

So he ordered a large Obama banner to hang in his yard from an Iowa-based vendor he found online. Weeks later, the banner’s decidedly unofficial red-star design (which the vendor, not Clegg, came up with) has taken on new meaning in the context of Republican taunts that U.S. Sen. Barack Obama is a “socialist.” Still, Clegg said he’s had nothing but favorable comments, aside from one resident who asked him if he was presuming to speak for the whole neighborhood. (Yes, Clegg replied, he was.)

Meanwhile real socialists in France have relegated traditional emblems like the red star to the dustbin of history, preferring designs that recall cutting-edge political art. So who’s picking up radical left-wing poster art traditions? Tories in England.

UPDATE: Steve Grubb, CEO of VictoryStore.com, which sells Obama signs and merchandise via the ObamaZen.com and DemocraticNationalCommittee.com Web sites, tells MnIndy that the graphic designers who came up with the red-star Obama design 18 months ago are in their 20s and had no idea of the symbol’s socialist and communist roots. The nonpartisan company sells to Democrats, Republicans and Libertarians alike, Grubb said, and always finds substitutes for official campaign symbols.

Since then VicStore has sold “hundreds of thousands” of items with the logo, he said, “and sure, there’s a few people who see a socialist behind every bush” — but the company hasn’t pulled the products. Now Grubb’s company is selling out stock on existing products and readying a series to sell on Nov. 5 for the winner, either for Obama at obamazen.com or U.S. Sen. John McCain at JohnnyMac08.com. VicStore also continues to flog Ron Paul stuff to Libertarians.
