Former state Sen. Tarryl Clark, who lost a bid for Rep. Michele Bachmann’s seat last election cycle, outraised all other 8th Congressional District candidates, including Rep. Chip Cravaack, last quarter.
The former Army National Guard member said he joined the race because there seems to be an enthusiasm gap from DFLers.
Anderson said his candidacy could transcend the sometimes contentious relationship between the Iron Range and Duluth.
Cravaack has also garnered financial support for U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann’s PAC.
Range natives Veda Ponikvar, former state Sen. George Perpich and former state Rep. Joe Begich have all backed Nolan.
Freshman Rep. Chip Cravaack, who was swept into Congress in the 2010 Republican tidal wave, is widely viewed as vulnerable, and a slate of accomplished candidates from the Democratic-Farmer-Labor party attests to that perceived weakness. Each challenger hopes to win the nomination and take back a district which had been held by the DFL for 63 years.
Rep. Chip Cravaack plans to move his family from Minnesota to New Hampshire to be closer to his kids while in Washington, which could hurt Cravaack in 2012 by bolstering criticism that his ties to the region are light.
Although he outraised both DFL candidates, U.S. Rep. Chip Cravaack cemented his fundraising lead partly through the donations of corporate executives and PAC money.

Rep. Michelle Bachmann has won reelection in Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District, the Associated Press reports, defeating Democratic candidate state Sen. Tarryl Clark. Votes are still being counted, but Bachmann leads Clark by a 51-40 percent margin with 40 percent of precincts reporting.
