Rep. Michele Bachmann is hosting an election night party at the Sheraton in Bloomington tonight, according to an invitation for the party. For a candidate repeatedly criticized for her many appearances at Tea Party rallies and conservative media outlets outside the district, Bachmann’s choice for her victory party may be telling: Bloomington is not in Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District.

Cravaack, Clark, Walz pick up major endorsements

With a week before the election, major daily newspapers and high-profile officials are making their picks for Nov. 2. Democratic state Sen. Tarryl Clark and U.S. Rep. Tim Walz both grabbed endorsements from the state’s largest newspaper on Sunday, while Independence Party candidate for governor Tom Horner gained the support of the Pioneer Press. Walz also got the nod from Republican former Gov. Arne Carlson over the weekend, while GOP candidate Chip Cravaack picked up the endorsement of the Duluth paper.

Clark, Horner pick up ECM endorsements

As the weekend goes, so goes the week: Democrat Tarryl Clark followed up her St. Cloud Times endorsement of Sunday with a nod today from ECM Publishers, Inc., while gubernatorial candidate Tom Horner gains the same newspaper chain’s endorsement after his weekend endorsement flurry. What may come as a surprise: That company was founded by former Republican Gov. Elmer Anderson.

Clark gets nod from St. Cloud Times as Horner gets Strib, Forum endorsements

It was a good weekend for Tom Horner, the Indepedence Party candidate for governor. He picked up endorsements from editorial boards in some of Minnesota’s biggest papers, including the dailies in Duluth and Minneapolis. Less surprising is Tarryl Clark’s endorsement over incumbent Republican Michele Bachmann by the St. Cloud Times: that paper endorsed the last Democrat to take on Bachmann, Elwyn Tinklenberg, in 2008.

In the final two weeks of campaign 2010, a flurry of new ads: Rep. Michele Bachmann has brought back “Jim the Election Guy,” also known as Beau Peregino, an actor from Maryland. Minnesota’s Future launched another pro-Emmer ad despite the investigation into its funding practices, and Chip Cravaack is on the air with an ad criticizing his opponent, Rep. Jim Oberstar.

On Tuesday, DFLer Tarryl Clark challenged her opponent, Rep. Michele Bachmann, to a series of eight “Main Street Forums.” The Clark campaign said that only one of the three debates that Bachmann has agreed to is in the 6th Congressional District. Clark asked reporters during a conference call, “Is she afraid of coming and talking to me? Is she afraid of the people?”

Rep. Michele Bachmann’s husband, Marcus, took issue with a recent web ad by his wife’s opponent, DFLer Tarryl Clark, which said, “Michele Bachmann: Not doing @#%! for the people of the 6th District.” Marcus Bachmann, in an email fundraising pitch, called the ad a “profanity-laced attack” on his wife and said it amounted to “transparent attempts to lure my wife into a grade school cussing match.”

Bachmann spokesperson won’t give straight answer on candidate debates

Annie Baxter tried to get the facts on how many debates Rep. Michele Bachmann is committing to in the waning days of the 2010 election, but she couldn’t get a straight answer — so the Minnesota Public Radio reporter posted the exchange for readers to decide whether or not Bachmann has agreed to debate her opponents. Bachmann’s spokesman Sergio Gor made a straightforward question into a complicated game of wordplay.

New Bachmann ad hits back at Clark challenge

Rep. Michele Bachmann released a new television ad Thursday taking issue with the challenge posed in ads by her DFL opponent Tarryl Clark to cut her congressional pay and office budget. In the ad, Bachmann says that Clark voted against legislative pay cuts and voted for increases in per diems.
