He says it’s a trend. Soon we’ll see such hybrids as Utne Reader’s Digest, a nod to the hometown progressive magazine, and the magazine for kiddie tokers, Highlights Times. The last time Stewart tweaked Utne, the publication turned it into a video promotion produced by videographer Chuck Olsen.

Jon Stewart’s monocular endorsement of the Utne Reader has inspired a new video promoting the magazine. Chuck Olsen of The UpTake and MNStories has outfitted Utne staffers, including High Times-reading editor David Schimke and Paranoia-perusing Jeff Severns Guntzel with the single lens spectacles… all in reference to a Daily Show gag in which a similarly outfitted Stewart jokes that “literally tens of people have heard about it.”

It’s there.”  To that, host Jon Stewart, donning a monocle and a faux upper-crust drawl, gave a back-handed compliment to a Minneapolis-based journal, positioning it alongside elite — and, apparently, low-circulation — literary publications.

“Oh is it now? …It’s been in the Utne Reader? It’s in the Paris Review. Literally tens of people have heard about it. We almost got it into McSweeney’s.”
