By Chris Steller | 02.01.09 | 12:47 pm

Norm Coleman suggested in a TV interview Sunday that reporters’ asking about charges of illegally funneled money cost him the Nov. 4 Senate election. “That could have been a quiet story,” Coleman said. “It could have been a story that…

Radio days: Obama’s wired-side chats, T-Paw’s missing mea culpa on ‘CCO

By Chris Steller | 11.14.08 | 10:47 am

The parallels between the plan for President-elect Obama to post YouTube videos of his Saturday presidential radio addresses and President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s famed fireside chats aren’t lost on anyone this morning. Obama will roll out the practice tomorrow when he gives the Democratic response to President George W. Bush’s radio address.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s got his own regular radio gig, but his absence from it today meant a missed opportunity to set the record straight on his opinion of Minnesota’s electoral process.

Kessler: Uncharacteristically, Franken camp didn’t pimp info on Coleman lawsuit

By Chris Steller | 11.02.08 | 1:11 pm

Coleman and Kazeminy: How are local mainstream media outlets playing the story?

By Steve Perry | 10.31.08 | 10:51 am

A commenter points out this morning that the print edition of the Star Tribune has relegated Paul McEnroe and Tony Kennedy’s story about the Texas lawsuit against Friend-of-Norm Nasser Kazeminy to a bottom corner of the metro section’s front page.

Tinklenberg goes shopping for TV ad time with anti-Bachmann windfall

By Chris Steller | 10.20.08 | 12:14 pm

We wondered: After Michele Bachmann’s MSNBC meltdown the other day, would Elwyn Tinklenberg have trouble finding local TV ad time available for purchase this late in the game? The DFLer is suddenly flush with contributions in his 6th Congressional District campaign after Bachmann’s “anti-American” gaffe.

But three other more costly contests — for U.S. president, senate and house (3rd District) — are already consuming $29.7 million of Twin Cities TV. What’s left for El?

Who’ll stop the rain of negative attacks in 3rd CD? No one, apparently

By Chris Steller | 10.05.08 | 3:24 pm

On WCCO-TV Sunday, State Rep. Erik Paulsen spoke for the first time on Republican claims that DFLer Ashwin Madia is less qualified for the state’s 3rd district U.S. House seat because he’s not a father, rents, and doesn’t fit the district’s “demographic.” Asked if he would condemn the line of attack, Paulsen dodged the question — without acknowledging his campaign’s role in rolling out the personal slams. More after the jump, including videos of WCCO’s interviews with all three candidates.

By Paul Schmelzer | 09.10.08 | 9:55 am

Today’s media round-up: The Secret Service warned mainstream media sources about alleged threats against them by RNC protesters (this independent media site didn’t get such tips). A look at how Twitter served as the “police scanner of the 21st century newsroom.” And more.

Franken’s bad karma spills into nonpolitical ad time

By Chris Steller | 05.01.08 | 9:32 am

Republicans may have done crack oppo-research on Al Franken, but they couldn’t have also arranged for uncannily targeted third-party ad buys on local TV news … could they?

On WCCO-TV’s 10 p.m. news Wednesday, Amelia Santaniello teased…

Douglas’ farewell email: Regrets ‘not saying goodbye to viewers’

By Paul Schmelzer | 04.04.08 | 3:05 pm

WCCO chief meteorologist Paul Douglas, just let go from the CBS TV station, apparently with little warning, sent this email to friends and coworkers:

I wanted to drop you a quick note, before you read about it
