The memorial in the woods was dedicated in 2005 near the site where the plane carrying Sen. Paul Wellstone crashed on Oct. 25, 2002, killing the senator; his wife, Sheila; their daughter, Marcia Wellstone Markuson; and campaign aides Tom Lapic, Will McLaughlin and Mary McEvoy. (Pilots Richard Conry and Michael Guess also died; the National Transportation Safety Board found them at fault in the crash.)
